Welshpool Golf Course is a course designed for the intelligent player.
Although not particularly short, it would be very possible for one to
play to their handicap even without the driver. But, be warned, James
Braid was a clever architect. If the course is played with respect and
caution, one will be rewarded. However, virtually every hole can ruin
a good scorecard with mindless golf.
The Standard Scratch Score (SSS) is par (70) off the Green tees and 1
under (69) off the whites. However, very often the case in competitions,
the Course Standard Scratch (CSS) materialises to around 71 off the greens
and 70 off the whites.
As is consistent with all Braid designed courses, the greens are set
up for 'bump-and-run' shots as the fronts of the greens are unprotected.
Course planners can be bought from the clubhouse bar for only £2.50
and prove invaluable as accurate yardages and clear illustrations help
to direct you around the course.
Please take time to browse the hole guides that have been constructed,
along with pictures, to give you an idea of what to expect.
