A very difficult par 4, doubly so when played into the coastal wind. Out-of-bounds runs down the left of the hole and a ditch and thick rough lies in the middle of the fairway at about 220 yards from the tee. A solid three wood, or even a punch with the 3 iron, should see the ball run to just short of the ditch, leaving around 160 yards in.
The green is downhill and lies on an old roman fort, thus requiring good accuracy. It is possible to land the ball 20 yards short of the fence surrounding the green to allow it to roll down, even close to, the pin. When played into the wind, however, one can attack the pin as the ball is likely to drop-and-stop.
TIP: From tee, the fairway is a 'V'-shape, thus shots to the right or left are likely to run to the same place. With this in mind, don't be scared to aim right and away from the out-of-bounds. |
