Welshpool Golf Club has a strong relationship with the junior section and has been approved for the quality of its Junior Golf Provision and has gained GUW Junior Golf Cert accreditation. Throughout the summer the Club holds a golfing camp for youngsters of all ages to attend and learn, with local PGA Pro Andy Humphries heading the sessions with help from the Junior Organiser Dave Jones.
Within the club there are a number of juniors playing off single figure handicaps and, recently, the club has received and used the Ryder Cup Wales Legacy funding to build a practice area and green, 18 junior tee boxes and 4 driving nets to help with the junior coaching.
2008 Captain, Brian Lewis, stated on the official opening of the new junior practice facilities that "we have seen a significant rise in our junior membership from 15 to 45 in the space of just a few years. The rise in numbers can be attributed to the successful 2010 Ryder Cup bid and initiatives such as the Ryder Cup Wales Legacy Fund which is improving accessibility levels and creating more opportunities for young people and beginners to take part in the sport."
Juniors are always welcome and encouraged to play at the club with a number of membership packages available to all ages under 18. |
